With time, raw brass may oxidize or display darker color especially in summer time. Patina and oxidation is natural. It may occur gradually over a period of time or quickly with exposure to humidity, chemicals, cosmetics, perfume, salt or chlorinated water.
Take care of your jewelry in the end of the day, rinse, dry and polish with a polishing cloth over night. Take them off when swimming in a pool or salted sea and avoid contact with liquids and chemicals.
